The Print SHop Manager directs the operation of the college printshop to produce printed college materials; applies knowledge of graphic design, printing and bindery techniques along with sign making methods. Works with users to create and produce printed items that balance cost-effectiveness with quality and meet the needs and timelines of the users.
Reviews print shop requests; prioritizes work load by job complexity and due date; groups jobs requiring similar specifications, paper size and weight, etc., to minimize changes in equipment set up, maximize efficiency and productivity, and control costs.
Uses and supervises others in the use of the most up-to-date desktop publishing and graphic art concepts to create large format prints, large format scans, camera ready art, imposition, and prep work such as layout and negative stripping to prepare for plate making or digital plate output for eventual printing press applications.
Supervises and is involved in the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of printshop equipment. Researches and assists in the purchase, troubleshoots and maintains departmental copiers, fax machines, and multi function printers (MFPs).
Prepares and monitors department budget; orders supplies and equipment and monitors inventory; develops bid specifications and chooses vendors for outsourcing of labor intensive printing projects; works with outside vendors to take advantage of sales and price breaks.
Sets up methods to quickly and accurately determine the fixed costs of print jobs; oversees monthly billings to charge back departments for printshop services.
Plans, researches, evaluates and recommends equipment, software/hardware and machinery purchases to meet the future printing and copier needs of the college.
Assigns work, trains, and advises staff on work methods and techniques in the operation of printshop equipment; monitors work processes to assure quality, conformance to specifications, and timely completion.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates department staff and student workers.
Performs other related tasks as required.
3-5 years print shop management experience
Excellent Communication skills

Need great mentioring skills to teach interns who are learning on the job
Must be a stellar leader to manage and motivate staff in a positive manner
