Overview

The QA Test Engineer II works as a member of the Information Technology department to independently analyze, design, implement test strategies. This includes assistance with Unit, functional, integration, system, and performance testing.  This position will also act as a technical consultant to the development team and the business units to translate business requirements into test plans.  The incumbent will perform testing services using modern frameworks, participate in agile development methodologies, and make executive recommendations on the quality of software deliverables.  

 

The primary services provided are technical leadership over both new development testing and the integration of components of a COTS solution including test definition, execution, problem definition/determination, tracking and validation resolution in support of the project objectives.  

 

This is a FT contacted position that will be based in Williamsburg, VA (not a remote position).

Responsibilities

Solution Development 

  • Prepare test plans for assigned projects; ensure appropriate test coverage and lead the execution and reporting of the testing.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications for new applications
  • Code and configure test cases using automation techniques to improve productivity
  • Develop documentation for new development efforts, COTS applications and business process for users and/ or operators, or corporate wide.
  • Provide test\QA feedback on technology initiatives to the Mgr, QA and Operational Excellence.
  • Work with the Business unit trainer, HR and Employee Development to provide or arrange for necessary customer training
  • Work closely with technical team leads to develop technical standard operating procedures to improve service

Continuing Support 

  • Provide timely and effective customer service in response to departmental requests for assistance and guidance in using technology to deal with business challenges and opportunities.
  • Respond to tier-three support calls of assigned departments during normal working hours.
  • Determine the root cause of ongoing technical issues; define issues, facilitate fixes and communicate progress.

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • A minimum of 3-6 years of professional experience designing, implementing and testing enterprise information technology applications. 
  • Proven proficiency and aptitude in information system technologies and computer sciences;
  • prior experience with test automation, test planning, development methodologies and iterative prototyping concepts;
  • proven ability to analyze current information systems and develop testing strategies to ensure quality deployments;
  • possesses initiative, imagination, resourcefulness and sound judgment in execution of work assignments;
  • ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in written and verbal form and have the ability to prepare and present system related reports and sound recommendations to all levels of management and user personnel;
  • ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and equitably with customers and vendors.

Skills:

  • Experience installing, supporting, documenting and testing COTS packages in a Microsoft Windows server or Azure environment.
  • Experience installing, supporting, documenting and testing custom developed packages in a Microsoft Windows server or Azure environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft iis web servers and modern web technologies: AJAX, HTML, CSS, ASP.NET,
  • Some experience with .NET managed languages, WPF, XML, Visual Studio
  • Some experience with Node, Express, Angular, and MongoDB
  • Experience in SQL or T-SQL; SQL Server and/or DB2; Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Integration Services is a plus.
  • Experience with Python, C#, JavaScript, or other languages to leverage test frameworks for test automation.
  • Experience testing software hosted in Microsoft Azure Cloud Services
  • Microsoft and testing certifications a plus
